Adirondack Phantoms News Release
PHILADELPHIA - Nine different players recorded points as the Philadelphia Phantoms won their seventh consecutive game, taking a 5-2 decision over the Lowell Devils at the Wachovia Spectrum and pulling within three points of first place in the East Division. Jonathon Kalinski, Jared Ross and Claude Giroux each tallied a goal and an assist to lead a Phantoms attack that has averaged five goals per game, and scored 30 in all, during their current winning streak.
Lowell was able to jump on the board first with a goal just two minutes into the game. Alexander Vasyunov sent the puck in behind the Phantoms net, where Pascal Rheaume was able to corral it and work it in front on the near side. Patrick Davis was able to lift the puck above the glove of Scott Munroe to give the Devils a 1-0 lead.
But the Phantoms took charge from there. Giroux was able to even the score at the 7:46 mark of the first period. Defenseman Randy Jones, working the second game of his conditioning assignment with the Phantoms, fed a pass to Ross at the top of the right circle just as a power play had expired. Ross faked a shot and sent the puck instead to a wide-open Giroux at the left circle, which he easily shelved past Devils goaltender Jeff Frazee to even the score at 1-1.
The Phantoms jumped on top with just 1:26 left in the first period. Kalinski sent a pass to Patrick Maroon who launched a slap shot from the right circle. The puck caromed off the near post and Andreas Nodl, fresh of a long stint with the Philadelphia Flyers, was able to stuff home the rebound to make the score 2-1.
Philadelphia took a 3-1 lead 9:42 into the second period. Danny Syvret kept in a clearing attempt at the left point and found Nate Raduns streaking down the middle. Raduns fired a wrist shot from between the circles that beat Frazee over his right shoulder.
Just 40 seconds later, the Devils were able to get a goal back. Off a Phantoms turnover, Rosario Ruggeri left a pass at center ice that allowed Rheaume to enter the Philadelphia zone on a 2 on 1. He elected to shoot the puck from the right circle and sent it under the leg of Munroe to make the score 3-2.
But Philadelphia came right back with the third goal in less then two minutes of game action to take a 4-2 advantage. Kalinski jumped on a loose puck off a turnover in the Devils zone and fired a wrist shot past a sprawled Frazee at the 11:17 mark of the second period. Ross put the icing on the cake with a short-handed, empty net tally with 1:12 left in the game.
Munroe finished the evening with 25 saves on 27 shots, while Frazee stopped 26 of the 30 shots he faced. Both teams finished went 0-2 on the power play.
