Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators edged the Syracuse Crunch with a 3-2 shootout victory Friday night at the snowy Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. With the victory the B-Sens have captured seven points in their last four games to move into a fourth-place tie with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the East Division standings.

Rookie winger Kaspars Daugavins gave the B-Sens a first period lead off a cross-ice pass from Ryan Shannon. With a delayed penalty called, Daugavins snapped a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle past netminder Dan LaCosta for his second goal of the season. Defenseman Mattias Karlsson extended his assist streak to three games with a helper on the opening goal.

Former B-Sens winger Mike Sgroi tallied the first goal for Syracuse, bouncing a loose puck off a B-Sens defenseman and past netminder Brian Elliott early in the second stanza.

The B-Sens penalty kill unit, which was perfect in the last three games going a collective 18/18, stepped up again tonight with winger Danny Bois netting his second short-handed tally in as many games to give the B-Sens a 2-1 lead. Bois took advantage of a misplayed puck deep in the Syracuse zone and when he beat LaCosta on the glove side for his seventh marker of the year. Like Karlsson, Marc Cavosie extended his assist streak to three games with a helper on Bois' goal.

The Crunch responded two minutes later with a 4-on-4 tally off the stick of Adam Pineault. Pineault took a feed from Nick Holden and flipped a backhand shot over Elliott's glove hand to tie the game at 2 apiece.

After a scoreless third period and overtime session, Binghamton converted on two of four shootout attempts. Josh Hennessy beat LaCosta in the second round followed by Denis Hamel with the game-winning shootout goal in the third round.

Elliott stopped 30 shots to earn his 13th win of the season.
