Blues Assign Ben Bishop and Jonas Junland Back to Peoria

St. Louis, Mo. (December 19, 2008) - St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today that the club has assigned goaltender Ben Bishop and defenseman Jonas Junland to the Blues' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

Bishop, 22, made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut in a relief effort this season on Oct. 24 vs. Los Angeles, becoming the tallest goaltender to play in the history of the NHL at 6'7". He made his first career NHL start on Oct. 25, collecting his first win after defeating Florida 4-0 in a combined shutout with goaltender Marek Schwarz. Bishop has played in a total of five games with the Blues this season, posting a 1-1-1 record, a 3.18 goals against average and a .890% save percentage. He has also played in 15 games this season with the Rivermen, registering a 8-7-0 record, a .894% save percentage along with a 3.00 goals against average.

Bishop was originally St. Louis' third round selection, 85th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Junland, 21, made his NHL debut with the Blues on Dec. 18 at Washington, posting two penalty minutes. He has played in 21 games this season with the Rivermen, registering 13 points (six goals, seven assists) along with 12 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 195-pound defenseman skated in 52 games with Linkoping of the Swedish Elite League last season, collecting 20 points (three goals, 17 assists) along with 42 penalty minutes.

The Linkoping, Sweden native was originally drafted by the Blues in the third round, 64th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
