Albany Devils News Release

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Facing one of the hottest teams in the AHL, the Lowell Devils fell, 5-2, to the Philadelphia Phantoms on Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. The Phantoms stretched their winning streak to seven games, while the Devils have gone 0-4-0-1 in their last five matches.

The Devils struck early and went up, 1-0, two minutes into the contest on Patrick Davis' seventh goal of the season. Stationed behind the net, Pascal Rheaume put a pass onto the stick of Davis, who buried the puck past goalie Scott Munroe from the near post.

The Phantoms would hold the lead though at the end of the first period thanks to a pair of markers. After the Devils failed to clear their end, Jared Ross sent a cross-zone pass to the near circle, where Claude Giroux one-timed it into an open net at 7:46. Andreas Nodl then made the score, 2-1, with 1:26 remaining in the frame as he swept in from the right wing to deposit a rebound under a diving Jeff Frazee.

Philadelphia extended its lead to 3-1 at 9:42 of the second when Nate Raduns' chance from the point was blocked in front, but followed his shot to net to put back the loose puck.

Lowell cut the lead to one 40 seconds later when Rheaume held the puck on a 2-on-1 rush and fired a wrister from the right dot past the glove of Munroe. The Phantoms just as quickly went back up by two after a giveaway in front of the crease was pounded home by Jonathon Kalinski.

With the Devils trying to rally late on a power play, Ross cleared the puck down the length of the ice and into the empty for a shorthanded goal with 1:12 left in regulation.

Frazee stopped 26-of-30 shots in the loss. Both teams were 0-for-2 on the man-advantage.
