
Knights Split Thursday's Doubleheader with Bulls

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights split a doubleheader with the Durham Bulls on Thursday night behind a strong pitching performance from RHP Jonathan Cannon (1-2, 4.70), taking the win in game two, 5-2, after dropping game one, 4-3.
In game one, Charlotte catcher Chuckie Robinson hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead, ultimately falling short by a score of 4-3 in the seven-inning game.
RHP Nick Nastrini (0-4, 5.83) was saddled with the loss after throwing six innings pitched, giving up four earned runs on seven hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Out of the bullpen, RHP Aaron McGarity threw a scoreless inning in relief to keep the game close in the seventh inning, throwing one perfect inning with two strikeouts.
In game two, Cannon allowed a run in the first inning, and then settled in and threw five innings, giving up one run on three hits and three walks while striking out five en route to a 5-2 win.
In the bottom of the first inning, right fielder Oscar Colás brought home two runs with an RBI single to claim the lead 2-1 and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly from catcher Adam Hackenberg to take a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, third baseman Angelo Castellano tacked on two runs with an RBI single to left field.
In the top of the seventh, RHP Justin Anderson closed the door for this fifth save of the season, throwing one inning, giving up just one hit, and striking out two to close out a 5-2 victory.
The Knights will continue the six-game home series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) on Friday night at Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte, NC. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com on Friday starting at 7:00 p.m. First pitch is set for 7:04 p.m. from the home of the Knights.
