Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (8-8-2) had their worst loss of the season handed to them Friday night at the hands of the Alaska Aces (12-3-2). It was the first meeting of the season between these two teams since the Aces swept the Ice Dogs in the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs last April.

It took the Aces only 1:33 to score the game winner, when Ryan Gaucher put it in with help from Alex Leavitt and Mike Scott. Later in the first period at 17:15, Justin Maiser made it 2-0 with an assist to Vladimir Novak.

Alaska continued to pour it on in the second period as Mike Scott scored at 6:41 from Leavitt and Peter Metcalf. At 10:01 Barrett Heisten scored to make it 4-0, from Cam Keith and Olivier Filion.

The only goal of the third period came at 3:13 when Keith scored, with assists to Heisten and Metcalf. The 5-0 loss was the second time this season the Ice Dogs have been shutout at home.

Greg Hewitt took the loss for Long Beach, making 25 saves, while Matt Underhill earned the shutout for the Aces with 25 saves as well. The Ice Dogs' troubles on the power play continued as they went 0-6, though they stopped all five of Alaska's chances with the man advantage.

The Ice Dogs will have a chance at revenge tomorrow night when they take on the Alaska Aces again. Game time is at 7pm and the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive an Ice Dogs beanie cap, courtesy of Carl's Jr. For more information call (562) ICE-DOGS for visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
