December 2, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx announced today that they have acquired defenseman Ed Hill and forward B.J. Gaustad from the Phoenix RoadRunners in exchange for defenseman Shaun Fisher and forward Jake Riddle.

A five-year pro, the 25-year-old Hill has split time between the ECHL and American Hockey League over his career. The Newburyport, Mass. native has appeared in 92 games with the Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL, scoring a goal and six points along with 83 PIMs. Hill has a total of 223 pro games under his belt, including 12 with the RoadRunners this season. In those 12 games the 6-3, 210 lb. rearguard had 12 assists, a +1 rating and 23 PIMs, and was second in the team in scoring. Of those 12 assists, eight came on the power play.

Gaustad, 26, was second among active RoadRunners players in goals with five and third in points with 11, a +1 rating and 23 minutes in penalties. Brother of current Buffalo Sabre Paul Gaustad, the 6-0, 205 lb. left wing won back-to-back Colonial Cups with the United Hockey League's Muskegon Fury in 2004 and 2005. Gaustad comes off a career year last season with the Fury, potting 29 goals and 52 points in 77 games.

"I felt at this time that our most immediate need was to increase offensive production, especially on the power play," said Lynx head coach and director of hockey operations Bob Ferguson. "Hill is an excellent power play defenseman who can quarterback the special teams, while Gaustad is a proven offensive player. They will both help our power play production as well as our overall offensive production."

The Lynx part with Riddle, who had split time between Portland of the AHL and Augusta this season. With the Lynx Riddle appeared in 12 games, scoring one goal and totaling six points, a -1 rating, and 36 PIMs. Riddle also saw action in six games with the Pirates without registering a point.

Fisher, meanwhile, scored three goals and eight points in 16 games with the Lynx this season. He recently recorded a pair of goals against Greenville on November 25th, his best offensive output of the year. Fisher comes off a year in which he set career highs in goals (11), assists (22), and points (33) with Kalamazoo of the UHL.

In addition, the Lynx have been assigned goaltender Mike Wall from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the NHL.

The 20-year-old rookie netminder was recalled to Anaheim after appearing in eight games with Portland of the AHL, going 4-4-0 with a 3.53 GAA, .881 save percentage, and one shutout. Wall did not log any ice with the Mighty Ducks, serving as a backup to Ilya Bryzgalov while an injury kept Jean-Sebastien Giguere out of the lineup.

Wall came out of junior hockey as an undrafted free agent, and was invited to camp in Anaheim after posting a 24-22-8 record, 1.92 GAA and .931 in his final season with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League. A successful stint in camp led to the 6-2, 204 lb. netminder signing a three-year contract with the Mighty Ducks in September.

The Lynx are back in action Friday night in Columbia against the Inferno at 7:30 pm to kick off a home-and-home series that returns to Augusta Saturday night at 7:05 pm. Sunday the Greenville Grrrowl return to town for a matinee matchup at 4:05 pm. The Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show kicks off one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
