Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (11-3-1=23) lost for the first time this season at the Sovereign Center as the Dayton Bombers got a goal with just 36 seconds left to break a 3-3 tie and snap the Royals' seven game win streak. The Bombers, playing with a line-up that included four players returned from the American Hockey League today, out-shot the Royals 45 to 36 and controlled the tempo for much of the game; but the Royals hung tight thanks in large part to the goaltending of Barry Brust and the continuing success of the power play.

Dayton got on the board first when Scott Cameron took a Tim Konsorada pass, slid behind the Royals' defense and buried a backhander on Brust 4:52 into the hockey game. The Royals tied things at one, when Greg Hogeboom was sent on a break of his own by Mike Kompon, and Hogeboom buried one under the bar at the 17:16 mark of the first. But two late first period penalties by the Royals gave the Bombers a 5 on 3 skater advantage with under a minute remaining in the first; and Dayton did not waste the chance as Konsorada redirected a Tyson Teplitsky shot from the point with just 52 seconds remaining in the first to take a 2-1 lead to the locker room.

The Bombers went up 3-1 with another power play goal-this one a shot from the point by Mark Flood 6:50 into the second period. From there, the Royals seem to regain their edge and battled back to tie things at three with two power play goals of their own-the first on a put back from in tight by Dany Roussin, playing in his first game since being reassigned from the Manchester Monarchs to the Royals, at the 15:28 mark of the second period; and the second on a shot from the point by Reagan Rome with the Royals enjoying a 5 on 3 skater advantage 7:46 into the third period. The Royals seemed to build momentum as the third period progressed; but it was the Bombers who would break the deadlock with just 36 seconds left, when Flood would score his second of the night on a wrist shot from the high slot after a massive scramble in front of the Royals net.

The Royals are back in action at the Sovereign Center on Saturday night against the Toledo Storm (7:00 pm). The first 2000 fans in attendance on Saturday receive a Royals' picture frame courtesy of the St. Joseph Medical Center.
