Winger Garett Bembridge netted his ECHL-best 14th goal of the season in overtime, as the Steelheads downed the Las Vegas Wranglers, 2-1, in front of a crowd of 7,341 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV on Friday night.

Bembridge picked up the unassisted goal with just 1:09 left in overtime, allowing the Steelheads to remain unbeaten in their last seven contests (6-0-1). Bembridge carried the puck down the left wing side, before making a move out into the crease and slipping the puck between the legs of Wranglers' goaltender Marc Magliarditi (30 saves).

The Melfort, Saskatchewan native now has 29 points on the season, to lead the league. The game-winner was his second of the season.

The two sides skated to a scoreless first period, with the Steelheads out-shooting the Wranglers 13-9. Forward Marty Flichel registered five of the team's 13 shots in the opening period, as the Steelheads failed to convert on their two power plays despite firing seven shots on goal.

Steelheads' (13-3-1) rookie center Brad Thompson picked up the game's first goal at 4:43 of the second period. Defensemen Jim Hakewill and Blake Forsyth assisted on the even-strength goal, Thompson's fifth of the season. The Wranglers' (11-4-2) lone goal of the game came at 13:22 of the frame on a goal by Steve Crampton. Crampton slammed home a pass from forward Matt Dzeiduszycki. Defenseman Christian Chartier added the other assist.

Neither team found the twine in the third period, with the shots 11-7 in favor of the home team.

Rookie goaltender Steve Silverthorn (6-1-0) made a season-high and team-high 43 saves for his sixth win of the season. The Owen Sound, Ontario native made several huge saves in the extra session, as the Wranglers pumped seven shots on net in overtime. The win was Silverthorn's fifth in a row and his fourth on the road this season.

The Steelheads (27 pts.) are now 8-2-1 in West Division play, and they maintain their first place status with the victory. Alaska sits in second place with 26 points, while the Wranglers (24 pts.) still hold third place in the division.

These two teams square off again on Saturday night with the drop of the puck scheduled for 8:05 p.m. MST.
