
Gladiators fall to Everblades, 6-4

The Florida Everblades used two goals less than 3 seconds apart late in the second period to beat the Gwinnett Gladiators 6-4 on Friday night at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida. Florida jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by John Ronan 3:11 into the first period. Phil Aucoin and John Adams added the assists on the tally for the Everblades. The Everblades extended their lead to 2-0 later in the first period. With a delayed penalty upcoming to the Gladiators, Kevin Bergin beat Sean Fields on a 2-on-1 break taking a pass from Ernie Hartlieb for the tally. Kevin Bergin added his second goal of the night just 59 seconds into the second period to give the Everblades a 3-0 lead. Ripping a snapshot past Fields from the right wing circle, Bergin was set up by John Adams for the tally. Gwinnett finally got on the board 3:22 into the second period as Adam Smyth posted his 2nd goal of the season beating Florida netminder Craig Kowalski with a slap shot from the bottom of the right wing circle. Pascal Pelletier picked up the assist on the tally for the Gladiators. Derek Nesbitt posted his 5th goal of the season on the power play to cut the Everblades lead to one goal. Nesbitt set up on the off post and took a pass from Scott Kelman to pick up the tally. Guillaume Desbiens added an assist on the goal at 10:54 of the second period. Florida regained their two goal advantage at the 12:03 mark of the second period as Chris Lee ripped a slapshot past Fields from the high slot. Kevin Estrada and Sisca added the assists on the goal Pascal Pelletier got the goal back for the Gladiators on the ensuing faceoff. Brad Schell tapped the puck to Pelletier who slipped past the Everblades defense and beat Kowalski for the tally just 7 seconds after the Florida tally. Jeff Campbell got the Gladiators even at the 13:55 mark of the second period with a slap shot from the right wing circle that just trickled past Kowalski and into the net. Campbell just had enough on the shot as Kowalski got a piece of it as Kelman and Troy Milam picked up the helpers on the tally. Florida then posted 2 goals less than 3 seconds apart in the waning moments of the second period to take a 2-goal, 6-4 lead to the second intermission. Kevin Bergin competed the hat trick beating Fields in the slot at the 19:56 mark of the period. Ryan Brindley picked up the assist on the tally. On the ensuing face off, Paul Cabana came away with the puck and ripped a slap shot past Fields from the right wing circle for the unassisted tally with just one second left in the period. The power play goal pushed the Florida lead to 6-4 heading to the second intermission. Sean Collins replaced Sean Fields in the third period stopping all 7 shots he faced in relief of Sean Fields. Gwinnett went 2-for-5 on the power play while the Everblades scored three times on the power play in seven chances.
