Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Reagan Leslie and Alexandre Bolduc led a late third-period Condors rally, but Pensacola's Brian Collins put Bakersfield out of reach as the Condors fell to the Ice Pilots at the Pensacola Civic Center.
The Ice Pilots hit the scoreboard early in the game on the power play. Following a Scott Basiuk Interference penalty just eight seconds after the opening faceoff, Luke Fulghum took a shot from the blue line and saw Brendon Cook deflect the puck through Ryan Cyr's five-hole to give Pensacola a 1-0 lead just 1:52 into the match-up.
The lead was doubled ten minutes later as Adam Courchaine led an attack on the right wing, outpaced his defender and pushed a backhander past Cyr to make it 2-0 Pensacola with 8:16 remaining in the first.
Luke Fulghum would make it 3-0 for the Ice Pilots just 2:12 into the secod period after connecting from Corey Neilson and Brendon Cook. Fulghum and Cook both recorded their third point of the evening as Pensacola carried their three goal lead into the third period.
Bakersfield would charge back on the power play and get on the board thanks to Reagan Leslie's slapshot, sailing through traffic from the blue line and behind Frederic Cloutier to bring the Condors within two. Mike Hofstrand and Alexandre Bolduc assisted as Bakersfield cut Pensacola's lead to 3-1 with 11:25 left in the third period.
Four minutes later, Joel Irving would work the puck into the slot, split two Ice Pilots defenders, and bounce a pass to Bolduc, who lifted a puck off the right pad of Cloutier and across the goal line to bring the Condors within a goal. Pensacola's lead was cut to 3-2 with 7:06 left in the game.
Brian Collins would then score the clincher three minutes later, leading a two-on-one charge on Ryan Cyr's net. Anders Olsson threw himself onto the ice in an attempt to block Collins' pass, but Collins deked past the outstretched Olsson and pushed a backhanded into the net to make it 4-2 Ice Pilots with 4:12 remaining. The Ice Pilots would add empty- netter by Adam Courchaine in the waning moments as they picked up the 5-2 victory.
Frederic Cloutier picked up the win, stopping 44 of Bakersfield's 46 shots. Ryan Cyr was credited with the loss, despite making 32 saves on 36 shots.
Individual ticket plans for the 2005-06 Condors season are on sale now at the Condors office located at 1001 Truxtun Avenue or by calling at 324-PUCK (7825).
