Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ - Peter Worrell scored two goals as part four-goal second period that led the Charlotte Checkers to a 5-3 win over the Trenton Titans in front of 3,414 at Sovereign Bank Arena
Despite outshooting the Checkers 13-6 in the first period, the Titans would find themselves deadlocked 1-1 after the first twenty minutes.
While on the penalty kill, Nathan Gillies took advantage of a fortuitous bounce at the Titans blueline and went the other way for a shorthanded goal at 7:25 - the first shorthanded goal given up by the Titans this season.
Stephen Wood helped give some momentum back to Trenton tying the score on his first of the year at 18:37 of the first.
From there it was all Charlotte, as the Titans allowed a season-high four goals in a period. Rory Rawlyk got it started with his sixth of the season 1:35 in the middle frame.
Just over four minutes later, Worrell's power play goal gave his team a 3-1 lead and chased Titans goalie Rejean Beachemin from the net.
Dustin Traylen didn't fair much better in relief allowing even strength goals to Luke Staffaucher and Worrell for his second of the night.
The Titans attempted a rally in the third period with Mark Lee notching his second in as many games, a power play goal scored at 8:29.
Scott Bertoli then converted a 2-on-1 with Chris Pittman at 12:56 to make the score 5-3, but Trenton would come no closer.
Beauchemin suffers the loss stopping 11 of 14 in just over twenty-five minutes of work, while Traylen turned away 7 of 9 shots.
The Titans finished 1-for-7 on the man advantage and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The Trenton Titans return continue their three-game home stand against the Dayton Bombers on Saturday, December 3 at 7:00pm. Tune into 91.3FM WTSR or log on to www.trentontitans.com to hear all of the Titans action.
