Gladiators lose to Grrrowl 5-3

The Gwinnett Gladiators trailed after the first and second period for the first time this season in a 5-3 loss to the Greenville Grrrowl at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday night.

Greenville jumped out to an early lead with a 5-on-3 power play goal 7:48 into the first period. Jason Jozsa beat Gladiators netminder Sean Fields from point blank range in the slot off a centering feed fron Colin Pepperall. Matt Zultek also picked up an assist on the tally. Vladimir Gusev hooked up with Pepperall to set up Greenville's second goal as they found Brock Radunske in the slot for the goal. Radunske picked up the goal on the power play at 9:34 of the first period. Brad Schell cut the Greenville lead in half with his second goal of the season.

In the right wing circle, Schell took a pass from Jeff Campbell and put the puck off of Greenville netminder Mike Brodeur for the goal just 49 seconds into the second period. In his first game with the Gladiators after being assigned to Gwinnett from Chicago, Adam Smyth picked up a helper on the goal. Chris Durno extended his point scoring streak to 8 consecutive games as he tied the game at 2 goals apiece with 4:19 remaining in the second period. Scott Kelman and Jeff Campbell picked up the assists on the tally.

Greenville was able to regain the lead before the end of the second period. John Snowden posted Greenville's third power play goal of the game with just 9 seconds left in the period. Jozsa and Allan Sirois picked up the assists on the tally. Greenville put the game out of reach 52 seconds into the third period as Matt Zultek added Greenville's 4th power play goal of the game. Pepperall and Jozsa recorded the assists on the tally.

Steve Slaton posted his third goal of the season to get the Gladiators within a goal midway through the third period. Mifsud and Nesbitt added the assists on the goal at 7:19 of the third period. Sirois rounded out the scoring beating Fields on a snapshot to the short side at 10:28 of the third period. Rory McMahon and John Snowden picked up the assists on the goal. Greenville posted four power play goals in the win while Brodeur made 36 saves in the win for Greenville. Gwinnett went 1-for-7 on the power play to extend their power play streak to eight games.
