Salmon Kings add some spice

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings announced today that they have acquired Goaltender David Currie from the Johnstown Chiefs, for future considerations.

The 5'10" 190lbs. native of Peterborough, Ontario has played the last three seasons with the Chiefs. Currie started five games with the Chiefs this season and has a record of 0-3-2 with a 3.34 GAA and a .880 save percentage.

Currie has been a solid netminder since starting his professional career in the 2003-04 season. In his rookie season the 23-year-old, finished with a record of 19-10-3, with a 2.93 GAA and a .905 save percentage in 34 games. He has played in 69 career ECHL games, and has a record of 29-25-12 with a 3.07 GAA.

Currie played four season's with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League with his best year coming as a 20-year-old, when he recorded 24 wins, 15 losses and seven ties with a 2.89 GAA and a .915 save percentage in 52 starts. Currie finished that season with the third best save percentage in the league, on a team that ended up second in the East Division.

"David has had some tremendous success in Johnstown and is a welcomed addition to our team," remarked Dan Belisle, Vice-President of Hockey Operations for the Victoria Salmon Kings. Currie will join the Salmon Kings in Phoenix, AZ on Sunday November 20, 2005.

In other roster moves today, the Salmon Kings activated Forward Steve Roberts from the 30 day injured reserve. Roberts will see his first action of the 2005-06 season tonight. Also off the injured reserve are Goaltender BJ Boxma (7-day) and Defenseman Nate Forster (7-day). Victoria has placed Forward Derek Campbell and Goaltender Rob Muntain on the 7-day injured reserve.

The Salmon Kings fifth game of a six game home stand is scheduled for 7:00pm tonight at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre and they will finish tomorrow against the Idaho Steelheads. The Salmon Kings will then hit the road for a five game road trip beginning in Phoenix, AZ on Monday November 21, 2005.
