Lynx roll Inferno 9-5
November 18, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
After scoring just three goals in two games against the Columbia Inferno this season, the Augusta Lynx exploded for nine tallies in a 9-5 win on Friday at Frank McGuire Arena in South Carolina.
Leon Hayward would put the Inferno out to an early 1-0 lead, but the Lynx struck back with a pair of goals from Dan Sullivan and Paul Kelly to grab a 2-1 lead by the first intermission.
Nicolas Corbeil opened the scoring just 34 seconds into the middle frame by banking a shot off an Inferno defender to make it 3-1 from Joe Pereira and Ryan Lang. Chris Cava's first of two goals on the night at 3:05 pulled the score to 3-2, but Augusta would open up a two-goal cushion once again with Joel Stepp's first goal as a Lynx at 7:22 from Sullivan and Brian Passmore.
Back came the Inferno to knot the score at 4-4 on goals by Dallas Flaman and Cava through 40 minutes of play, setting the stage for a wild finish.
The third period would belong to Augusta as they erupted for five goals, three off the stick of Colt King. Martin Lapointe started the scoring with his first goal of the year with a power play marker at 1:03, followed by a King man-advantage score at 7:33 to make it 6-4 Augusta. King then marked again, this time with a shorthanded tally at 11:24 before Gustav Engman registered his first of the year to make it a 7-5 game. From there, Lang would notch his first of the year from Corbeil and Passmore at 16:41 and King rounded out his hat trick with an unassisted goal at 19:43 for a 9-5 final.
Augusta pelted Inferno goaltender Chris Houle with 42 shots on goal, and he finished with 33 saves in the loss. Trevor Cunning stopped 18 shots for the win. Augusta ended the night 2-for-6 on the power play, while Columbia went 2-for-8.
The Lynx will now travel to Pensacola to battle the Ice Pilots in a Sunday matinee game at 5:05 pm EST. The Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show kicks off one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
