ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (5-3-0) scored five third period goals to help win their fifth straight home game and pick up a 5-2 come-from-behind victory over the Charlotte Checkers (5-2-1) on Friday night at Germain Arena.
After spotting the Checkers a 2-0 lead, the Everblades collected third period goals from Phil Aucoin, Dan Sisca, Ernie Hartlieb and Steve Saviano to give the Everblades their fourth come-from-behind win of the season.
The Checkers opened the scoring on a Mike Bayrack goal 6:46 into the first period and then pulled out to a two-goal lead at 12:00 of the second period when Rory Rawlyk fired a shot past Everblades net-minder Phil Osaer on the power play.
In the final period Aucoin started the come back for the 'Blades by deflecting a point shot from John Adams at 4:52 to cut the Checkers lead in half. Just 3:22 later Sisca bounced a shot past Charlotte goaltender Jeff Glass from the center ice line to tie the contest at two. Hartlieb followed with the eventual game-winning goal at 11:45 when he beat Glass with a shot from the left circle sending the crowd of 6,180 into a frenzy.
With the Everblades short-handed for the eighth time on the night in the final 1:37 of regulation, Saviano closed out the scoring with a pair of short-handed, empty-net goals at 18:42 and 19:52 for his fourth and fifth goals of the season.
Osaer stopped 24 shots to win his fourth straight game and raise his record to 4-1-0, while Glass fell to 2-2-1 after allowing three goals on 30 shots faced.
On the power-play, the Everblades finished 0-for-5 and the Checkers closed out the night 1-for-8.
