Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA) The Johnstown Chiefs threw a monkey from their back, beating the South Carolina Stingrays, 4-1, for their first win of the season.

Justin Kelly set the tone of the game, scoring just 57 seconds into the contest. Kelly buried an Adam Henrich rebound, going top shelf over a helpless Maxime Daigneault.

While the Rays countered in the final minute of the first period, getting a shorthanded tally from Aaron Power, the Chiefs refused to be denied their first win of the season.

Mike Egener scored a power play goal at 4:39 of the 2nd period. Egener's slap shot from the point found Daigneault's 5-Hole and the Chiefs led, 2-1.

The third period was dominated by Johnstown. The Chiefs held the Stingrays to just 5 shots on goal in the final period. Adam Henrich made it 3-1 with a spectacular individual effort. Henrich appeared to skate behind the net, but the big winger managed a near-post wrap-around shot while skating behind the net. John Toffey added the icing to the Chiefs cake, getting the empty netter, at 19:26.

Brandon Elliot did not score a goal in his 3rd consecutive game, but did electrify the crowd with an extended fight against Nate Kiser.

Jonathan Boutin returned the Chiefs, making 29 saves, including several big stops during a 2nd period 5 on 3.

The Chiefs are in Toledo, Saturday night. The game can be heard on the Chiefs radio network (850-AM & 990-AM) and the b2networks.com. The Chiefs will be home next Friday, November 25 against Trenton. Call 1-800-Slapshot for ticket details.....
