Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (7-2-1=15) remained undefeated at home, winning for the fourth time in as many tries at the Sovereign Center-the last three in a row against the Dayton Bombers. The Royals fell behind early as the Bombers scored on their first shift 49 seconds into the contest, when Dayton's Tim Konsorada was able to lift the third consecutive rebound opportunity over the Royals' goaltender, Cody Rudkowsky, who was prone on the ice. But Reading regrouped and got on the board with a five-on-three power play goal when Greg Hogeboom finished from the back-door on a Mike Kompon feed across the crease to tie things at one at the 13:25 mark of the first period.

The Royals took their first lead of the game at the 12:18 mark of the second period when Mike Pandolfo bagged the Royals second power play goal of the night, as he ripped a hard snap shot behind Dayton goaltender, Andrew Penner, who was playing in his first game for the Bombers since being re-assigned by the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. But the resilient Bombers responded to tie things at two with a power play goal of their own by Mark Flood with just 1:40 remaining in the second period.

The Royals exploded for four goals in the third, the first when Mike Kompon shot one from behind the goal line that ricocheted off Penner's pads and into the net 1:00 into the period. Reading went up by two (at 4-2) 1:27 later when defenseman T.J. Kemp scored his first goal as a pro on a backhand from the mid-slot. But Dayton (again) rebounded with another power play goal by Mark Flood at the 10:39 mark of the third to make it a one-goal game again. 1:40 later, however, Jon Francisco ripped a one-time blast from the high slot that beat Penner high to the blocker side, giving the Royals some valuable insurance. The Royals got further breathing room when John Morlang added an empty netter with 47 seconds left to make it 6-3.

The Royals take on the South Carolina Stingrays make their only visit to the Sovereign Center tomorrow night for a 7:00 p.m. start. That night the Royals will host hockey's most prestigious prize, the Stanley Cup and will once again work to raise money and awareness for the victims of the hurricanes in the southern United States earlier this year.
