Countdown to Face-Off Kalamazoo Wings Vs Fort Wayne Komets Wings Stadium Kalamazoo, MI Monday, March 17, 2003 7:00 PM
Game Preview A rivalry will get renewed tonight as the Kalamazoo Wings host the Fort Wayne Komets at Wings Stadium, and for the first time it will be played on Green Ice. Tonight will mark the 22nd Annual Green Ice Game at Wings Stadium. The K-Wings are 14-4-3 lifetime on Green Ice, and they are hoping to improve upon that in a crucial game in the playoff hunt. The game will mark the seventh and final meeting between the teams in the regular season. So far this year, the K-Wings are 3-2-1 against their archrivals the Fort Wayne Komets.
The Komets enter the contest already clinching a playoff birth, but the Komets are still competing for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Fort Wayne is 2 points ahead of Adirondack and four points ahead of Elmira.. The Komets are led by Tom Lawson, who leads the UHL with a GAA at 1.98.
For the K-Wings, tonight will end a three game home stand. Kalamazoo is 1-1-0 during the stand, and tonight isn't just the rubber match, it's is also a crucial game in the K-Wings playoff hunt. Kalamazoo is 5 points behind Flint and 4 points behind Rockford for the final playoff spot in the UHL. Kalamazoo will receive a boost in their lineup tonight, as Chris Brooks is back for the K-Wings. Also making his debut tonight for Kalamazoo will be Josh Akright. The rookie defenseman, who was selected by the K-Wings in the third round of the UHL North American Amateur Draft joins the K-Wings after finishing his college career at Western Michigan University.

For both players, the 10 game streak is not only their longest scoring streak of the year, it is also ties them for the longest streak this season for the K-Wings. Carpentier also starts the week with a 5 game goal streak. Hodge Streak Reaches Four K-Wing defenseman Dan Hodge also starts the week on a point streak. Hodge has recorded an assist in each of his last four games
Lawrence Sets K-Wings Season High With 3 assists in the K-Wings game last Saturday (3/15) versus Elmira, forward Mark Lawrence set a K-Wings season high for assist in a game. Lawrence recorded three assist in the game, which saw the K-Wings defeat the Jackals 5-4.
Mad Hatter Yannick Carpentier's recorded a hat trick versus Elmira last Saturday (3/15). The hat trick was the K-Wings fourth of the season, and their 15th in their franchise UHL history.
Playoff Hunt The K-Wings start the week 5 points behind Flint and 4 points behind Rockford for the final playoff spot in the UHL playoffs. Heading into their game against Fort Wayne (tonight), the K-Wings have 6 games remaining in the regular season.
