Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release
Kingfish goaltender Niklas Sundberg continues to play stellar in net for Baton Rouge. In his only start this past weekend; Sundberg made 29 saves in a 1-0 loss to the Louisiana IceGators while putting up a 1.02 goals against average and a .967 save percentage. In 22 games with the Kingfish this season, Sundberg has posted a 10-10-2 record while in Baton Rouge.
Looking to the Power Play: The Kingfish have been relying on their power play in the past 13 games. During that stretch, the Kingfish have won six of thirteen and have picked up at least one power play goal in each of their wins. In Baton Rouge's seven losses, the Kingfish have been kept off the scoreboard on the power play including an 0-for-3 effort in last night's 1-0 loss at Louisiana.
Down the Home Stretch: The Kingfish's 68 games played this season are the most by any team so far this season in the ECHL. Arkansas and Jackson are tied for the fewest played with nine games remaining, while the Kingfish have just 4 games left this season. Baton Rouge takes on Jackson this weekend before traveling to Mississippi next Tuesday. The Kingfish finish off their schedule with home games on March 28th against Louisiana and March 30th versus Arkansas.
Scoreless: The Kingfish have been kept scoreless in their past three games, dropping a 3-0 decision at Columbus on March 9th, a 6-0 loss at Jackson on March 14th and a 1-0 loss at Louisiana yesterday. The Kingfish's last goal in regulation came against South Carolina off the stick of Joe Guenther at the 16:17 mark of the second period.

Jackson took a 1-0 lead late in the second period as Bryan Forslund won an offensive zone draw cleanly back to Regan Rome at the left point. Rome took the puck and skated down the left wing side and flipped the puck over the shoulder of Jeff Blair at the 15:48 mark of the period for the lead. Billy Newson extended Jackson's lead to two goals 5:50 into the second third period as he deflected a Brent Gauvreau shot past Blair. Forslund gave the Bandits a 3-0 lead as he intercepted a Kingfish pass along the blue line and beat Blair shorthanded on a breakaway with 11:30 left in the third period. The Bandits continued to pick up goals as Doug MacIver's slap shot from the point eluded Blair four minutes later for the unassisted goal. Jackson took a 5-0 lead as Eric Fortier took a pass from Dave Stewart and stuffed it past Blair at the 14:44 mark of the third period. Fortier added his second of the night and finished off the scoring with just two left in the third period as he batted the puck out of a scrum in the crease past Blair.

In a tight checking contest in Lafayette, the IceGators picked up the only goal of the game and the 1-0 shutout win over the Kingfish. Bobby Brown's slapshot on the power play 47 seconds into he second period proved to be the game winner. Kyle Kettles made 25 saves in the win for the IceGators while Niklas Sundberg made 29 saves in the loss for the Kingfish.

Last meeting of the season against the Bandits. Jackson has shutout the Kingfish in the last two meetings; a 2-0 win on March 7th and a 6-0 win on March 14th. In 11 games against the Bandits, Baton Rouge has been outscored by a 40-21 margin overall. The Kingfish have not beaten the Bandits since the second week of the season, a 4-2 victory in Jackson.
