March 17, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release

LAST WEEK: The Pride went 2-1-0 last week, improving their overall record to 37-24-5 for 79 points. Pee Dee remains in third place in the Southeast Division, one point ahead of fourth-place Florida, and four points in back of third-place South Carolina.

Thursday, March 13 @ Columbia Inferno 4 PRIDE 0

Columbia scored two goals in the game's opening 2:27, and never looked back in a 4-0 win at the Carolina Coliseum. Pee Dee's power play continued to struggle, going scoreless in six opportunities. Matt Underhill made 25 saves in the loss.

Friday, March 14 v. Greensboro PRIDE 5 Generals 4 (SO)

Greensboro took the early lead on a goal by former Pride defenseman Rod Aldoff just 3:11 into the game. But, the Pride came back, scoring three times in a 6:21 span before the end of the first period, taking a 3-1 lead into the intermission. The Generals came back, tying the score at three 5:54 into the third period. Preston Mizzi put the Pride back on top at the 12:19 mark, but the Generals tied it with just one second remaining in regulation. After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout. Matt Reid and Allan Sirois scored for the Pride, and Ron Vogel turned aside four of Greensboro shots to earn the win.

Saturday, March 15 v. Greensboro PRIDE 5 Generals 4 (SO)

It was all about the power play early on, as each of the first five goals scored in the game came on the man advantage. Pee Dee struck first on Mike Glumac's 34th of the year at 15:18 of the first period. The Generals scored two power-play goals of their own just 1:40 apart late in the first period, and added a Mark Turner goal at 10:39 of the second, making it 3-1. The Pride pulled within one late in the second on a power-play tally by Matt Reid, and tied it on the first even-strength goal of the night, scored by Kyle Kidney just 49 seconds into the third period. The Pride went back ahead on a Preston Mizzi goal at the 7:52 mark of the third. But, for the second night in a row, the Generals tied it late, this time on a Rod Aldoff goal with just 1:50 left. Once again, the game went to a shootout, and both Daniel Berthiaume and Matt Underhill were stellar in net, with Underhill stopping all seven Generals' shooters, and Berthaume turning aside the first six Pride shooters, until Greg Schmidt in round seven finally found the back of the net to give Pee Dee the win.

OTHER NOTES

TALE OF TWO TEAMS

Pee Dee has certainly been two different teams of late. The Pride have won eight straight games on home ice, and nine of the last ten. But, in their last 14 road games, the Pride are just 3-11-0, and have lost six of their last seven away from home.

OVERTIME EXPERTS

With a pair of shootout wins over Greensboro this weekend, the Pride are now 11-0-5 in overtime/shootout games this season. Pee Dee has won nine straight games that have gone beyond regulation.

GLUMAC NETS ROOKIE RECORD

Rookie forward Mike Glumac scored his 34th goal of the season in the Pride's win over Greensboro on Saturday. His 34 goals are a new Pride team record for most goals in a season by a rookie, breaking the previous record of 33, set by Wes Goldie in 1999-2000. Glumac is five goals away from tying the team record of most goals in a season, set by Dany Bousquet last year.

NEVER SAY DIE

The Pride's win over Greensboro on Saturday was their eighth win this season when trailing after two periods. Pee Dee is 8-15-2 this season when trailing after two periods. The eight wins are tied with Mississippi for the second most in the league. Only Peoria with nine has more wins in that situation.
