Arkansas RiverBlades News Release

Buddy Smith has tallied a goal and two assists to lead the Arkansas RiverBlades to a 4-1 victory over the Mississippi Sea Wolves Monday night at Alltel Arena.

Dean Stock added a goal and an assist, and Jason Bermingham and Ryan Coole each racked up two assists in the victory for Arkansas. Scott Fankhouser made 37 saves to get the win, his 6th as a RiverBlade.

Damon Whitten kicked off the scoring with the only goal of the first period at 15:59, assisted by Buddy Smith and Dean Stock.

Then, in the second, Dean Stock connected on the power-play, banging in a rebound shot by Garry Toor. Buddy Smith also assisted on the goal.

Less than a minute later, Smith lit the lamp himself, dekeing between two Sea Wolves defenders, then sliding the puck past goaltender Greg Gardner for his 27th goal of the year. Jason Bermingham and Ryan Coole had helpers on the play.

Mississippi finally got on the board late in the period following a power-play, as Mike Scott backhanded his 24th goal of the season past goaltender Scott Fankhouser. Jeff Hutchins and Patrick Rochon assisted on the goal, and cut the RiverBlades lead to 3-1 at that point.

Terry Marchant scored the only goal of the third period, his 20th of the campaign from Jason Bermingham and Ryan Coole, to set the final.

Mississippi outshot Arkansas 38-30 for the game, and were 0-for-4 on the power-play. The RiverBlades were 1-for-2 with the man advantage. The win gives the RiverBlades sole possession of third place in the Southwest Division, one point ahead of the fourth place Jackson Bandits and two points ahead of the fifth place Pensacola Ice Pilots.

The Arkansas RiverBlades return to action this Friday and Saturday at the Alltel Arena, hosting the Pensacola Ice Pilots in a pair of key divisional games. Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m. on both nights.
