Bombers Notch Home Win, Get Set for Four-Game Week
March 17, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
The Dayton Bombers returned home from a three-game road swing and put a stop to their franchise-worst 13-game winless streak on Sunday in their lone game of the week. The Bombers' schedule picks up with four games in six nights and a larger eight games in 13 nights stretch to conclude the 2002-2003 regular season.
Below is a review of the Bombers' ECHL tilt this past week:
3/16/03- Cincinnati 3 @ BOMBERS 5
Five different players scored goals as the Dayton Bombers built a 3-0 lead en route to a 5-3 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. The Bombers scored their first two goals with the man-advantage. At the tail end of a 5-on-3, Brian Ridolfi's circle shot went into the net with 57 seconds left in the first period to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead. On the ensuing 5-on-4, the Bombers converted 52 seconds into the second stanza when Brian Cummings tipped Tom Nemeth's shot past Marc Kielkucki to make it 2-0.. Just 1:53 later, Yann Joseph sent a left-circle blast into the net to put the Bombers in front 3-0. The Bombers never relinquished their lead, though the Cyclones pulled to within one twice. Fred Slukynsky and Jason Deskins also scored for the Bombers. Leger and Nemeth each finished with two assists, while goalie Jayme Platt stopped 28 of 31 shots. The Bombers, who snapped a franchise and ECHL 2002-2003 season-high 13-game winless streak (0-11-2), were a perfect 6-for-6 on penalty kills.
BOMBER BITES: The Bombers' ten home short-handed goals is tied for the ECHL lead and is a new franchise record ... Center Jamie Ling has points in nine of his last 11 games (4-7-11) ... Forward Ryan Vince leads the Bombers in goals (26), first goals (7), and overtime goals (2). He is tied for the team lead in short-handed goals (2) as well ... Forward Fred Slukynsky is riding a personal season-best, six-game point scoring streak (3-4-7) ... Defenseman Tom Nemeth is second in ECHL defenseman shots entering the week (221) ... Along with the Richmond Renegades, the Louisiana Ice Gators, and the Pensacola Ice Pilots, the Bombers lead the league in overtime wins entering the week (5) ... The Bombers, however, are tied for the league lead in shootout losses with eight ... Thirteen different Bombers (including defenseman Doug Nolan, who was loaned to Hamilton of the AHL this past week) have been beckoned by American Hockey League teams this season (at least once).
