ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (34-19-12) defeated the Greensboro Generals (35-21-9) 3-1 in front of 5,486 at TECO Arena on Monday night. Florida forward Keith Anderson notched the game winning goal the third period and goaltender Brian Leitza turned aside 22 of 23 shots to give Florida the win. The game winning goal was Anderson's second in a row for the Everblades The Everblades moved into sole possession of third place in the ECHL's Southeast Division after the win on Monday night.
The Generals struck first and made it 1-0 after Greensboro forward Mike Bayrack tucked home a Sam Ftorek rebound shot at the 3:51 mark of the first period.
The Everblades responded in the second period when forward Brent McDonald extended his ECHL leading goal scoring streak to five games after chipping a rebound past Generals netminder Daniel Berthiaume at the 6:32 mark to make it 1-1. Recently reassigned forward Marty Johnston and right wing Kevin Brown picked up the assists on McDonald's 8th tally of the year.
Florida then took a 2-1 lead after Keith Anderson slipped a rebound into the net at the 2:44 mark of the third period. Forwards Don Smith and Tom Nelson picked up the helpers on Anderson's 14th goal of the season and second game winning goal in as many games. The Everblades then added an empty net goal from Marty Johnston at the 19:48 mark of the third period to seal the win.
Florida goaltender Brian Leitza (2-1-2) stopped 22 of 23 shots he faced while Greensboro netminder Daniel Berthiaume (25-14-5) stopped 39 of 41 shots he faced. The Everblades were 0 for 6 on the power play while the Generals were 0 for 2.
The Blades battle the Greensboro Generals at 7:30 PM tomorrow night at TECO Arena.
