Toledo Walleye News Release

The Storm's 42-14-9 record gives Toledo 93 points, which places the Storm in first place in the overall ECHL point standings.

Toledo's (.715) win percentage is the best in the league.

The Storm's 42 wins in 65 games is the third most in the league, trailing the Columbia Inferno (44 wins in 67 games) and the Peoria Rivermen (43 wins in 64 games).

Toledo has fewer losses in regulation than any team in the league (14).

With the two wins this past week at the Toledo Sports Arena (Friday, 5-3 v. Peoria Rivermen; and Saturday, 4-3 v. Peoria), the Storm has now won ten consecutive games at home, dating back to a 4-1 loss to the Lexington Men O' War on February 1. The 2002-03 Storm established a franchise record by winning the first eleven consecutive games at the Sports Arena this season.

The Storm has the best home record in the league: 25-2-4 = 54pts, which is an (.871) win percentage. The best home record in Toledo's eleven year franchise history was established in 1995-96 (27-4-4 = 58pts) (.829).

Two of the seven games remaining for the Storm will be played away from the Sports Arena: (i) Saturday, March 22 @ Dayton; and (ii) Sunday, March 30 @ Wheeling. Toledo has a record of 17-12-5 = 39 (.574) away from the Toledo Sports Arena this season. The best road record in franchise history preceding was accomplished in the inaugural season (1991-92), when the Storm went 21-10-1 = 43 (.671) in the opponents' buildings.

With the 5-3 win over the Peoria Rivermen on Friday night, the Storm snapped a six game winless streak (0-4-2) dating to November 8, 2002, against the Rivermen. The ten game season series between the Storm and the Rivermen concluded Saturday night with Toledo's 4-3 win over Peoria. This season the Storm went 4-4-2 against the Rivermen.

On Friday night, the Storm scored five goals on the Peoria Rivermen, who have the best team goals against average in the league (2.56). That marked the first time since December 13, 2002 that any team has scored more than four goals in a single game on the Rivermen. (During that stretch, Peoria went 30-6-3.) Peoria has given up more than four goals only eight times all season long, and twice it was to the Storm. (Toledo beat the Rivermen 5-2 on November 8.)

The Storm scored the first goal in both games played this week. On Friday, Trevor Read scored the game's first goal at 3:41 of the first period; and, on Saturday, Jeff Johnstone scored 1:20 into the first period to start the scoring. The Storm has scored first in 41 of the 65 games played this season and has a record of 34-2-5 in those games.

Trevor Read scored the first goal for the Storm in Friday's 5-3 win over Peoria. That was Read's first "first goal" of the season. That was also the first goal scored by Read in eighteen games. Read also scored the Storm's fifth goal of the game while the team was on the power play at 12:03 of the second period to give Toledo a 5-2 lead. Four of Read's six goals have been scored with the Storm playing with the man advantage. This was the first multi-goal performance of Read's professional career.

Wes Mason scored the Storm's second goal on Friday night at 13:34 of the first period to give Toledo a 2-0 lead. That was Mason's fourteenth goal and twenty-ninth point in forty-one games with the Storm this season.

Toledo took a 3-0 lead on Friday night at 15:02 of the first period with a power play goal by Nick Parillo. That was Parillo's twenty-third goal with Toledo this season and eighth power play goal, tying him with Matt Ellis for the team lead in that category.

In addition to scoring a goal on Friday night, Nick Parillo assisted on the Storm's first goal of the game (by Trevor Read). In Saturday's 4-3 win over Peoria, Parillo picked up two assists-his fifteenth multi-point game of the season. Parillo has twelve points in his last nine games (4g-8a=12pts) and is the Storm's leading scorer with 57 points (23g-34a=57pts), which places him seventh in the ECHL rookie scoring race.

Grady Moore assisted on two goals in Friday's 5-3 win for the Storm. Although he was held without a point in Saturday's game, Moore has thirteen assists in his last fifteen games, and he leads the team with thirty-six assists. Moore leads all defensemen on the team with 43 points (7g-36a=43pts), placing him third on the team in scoring and tied for tenth amongst defensemen in the league for total points.

The Storm went 2 for 5 on the power play in Friday's 5-3 win over Peoria. That marked the fifteenth time this season that Toledo has scored more than one power play goal in a game. The power play was blanked in six chances in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rivermen. The Storm power play has been held off the board in twenty-three games this year.

Overall, the Storm power play has scored 72 goals in 380 opportunities with the man advantage this season, which is an 18.9% scoring ratio-twelfth in the league.

The Storm penalty killers allowed a goal in each of the two games this past week. (Peoria went 1-7 on Friday and 1-4 on Saturday.) Overall this season, the Storm PK has allowed 61 goals against in 386 chances for the opponent, which is an 84.2% kill ratio-second out of the 27 teams in the league.

The Rivermen outshot the Storm 32-29 on Friday night. The Storm has a record of 16-9-2 when outshot by the opponent. On Saturday night, Toledo outshot Peoria 35-26. The Storm has a record of 23-5-6 when outshooting the opponent. Over the course of the season, the Storm averages 35.05 shots on goal per game, which is second best in the league in that category.

Storm goaltender Doug Teskey picked up both wins for the Storm this week, giving him 26 wins for the season, which places him third amongst goaltenders in the ECHL in that category.

On Friday night, Doug Teskey started and made 29 stops on the 32 shots taken by the Rivermen in the 5-3 win. On Saturday night, Brian Finley started in goal for the Storm and played the first 21:33, allowing one goal on seven shots. Teskey came in to relieve Finley on Saturday and played the final 38:27, making 17 stops on 19 shots in that time period to pick up the victory. That marked the third time this season that Teskey has come in to finish a game started by Brian Finley, and the Storm has won each of those three games. (It is the first time, however, that the win was credited to Teskey.) This also marked the eighth time this season that the Storm has made a goaltender substitution.

Over the course of this season, the Storm has a team goals against average of 2.74, which is second only to the Peoria Rivermen (2.56) in the ECHL.

Jeff Johnstone scored the first goal for the Storm on Saturday night, 1:20 into the game. That was Johnstone's first "first goal" of the season, and his thirteenth goal on the season. Johnstone also assisted on the Storm's third goal (by Timo Helbling) at 10:07 of the third period. This marked the seventh multi-point game of the year for Johnstone, who has 33 points (13g-20a=33pts) in 36 games with Toledo.

In Saturday's 4-3 win for the Storm over Peoria, Matt Ellis scored Toledo's second goal at 9:37 of the second period to give the Storm a 2-1 lead. That was Ellis' fourteenth goal in his last sixteen games. It was also his twenty-fourth goal of the season, giving him the team lead in that category.

In addition to scoring a goal, Matt Ellis assisted on the game winning goal scored by Jim Brown on Saturday night (with just 1:01 remaining in regulation). Ellis has twenty-two points in his last sixteen games with Storm (14g-8a=22pts). (Over the course of those 16 games, Ellis has had eight multi-point performances-and a total of 13 for the season.) The two points picked up in this game gives Ellis 51 on the season (24g-27a=51pts), which places him second in scoring on the Storm and eleventh in the ECHL rookie scoring race.

Timo Helbling scored the Storm's third goal on Saturday night to give Toledo a 3-2 lead 10:07 into the third period. That was the third goal of the season for Helbling, who just returned from the injured reserve on Friday night. Helbling's three goals have been scored in his last six games. Helbling also assisted on Matt Ellis' goal at 9:37 of the second period for his second multi-point game of the year.

The game winning goal on Saturday was scored by Jim Brown with just 1:01 remaining in regulation time-two minutes and twenty-nine seconds after Peoria had tied the game at three. For Brown, that was his seventh goal in fourteen games with Toledo. Three of his seven goals have been game winners.
