Heading into Saturday's matchup with the Roanoke Express, the Bullies were a mediocre 1-2-0 against its division rival. Express Get Revenge, Beat Bullies 5-4 Sunday, December 8, 2002

ATLANTIC CITY BOARDWALK BULLIES 4 @ Roanoke Express 5

The Roanoke Express are a thorn in the side of Atlantic City's professional hockey club. With the exception of Saturday's one-sided 3-0 win at Boardwalk Hall, the Express match up very well with its division rivals, proving that record has very little to do with all-out competition. The Bullies are now a 2-3-0 with Roanoke, its worst record against any opponent thus far into the regular season.

ECHL Rookie of the Month, Express forward Jason Jaffray, led the charge against A.C., netting two goals, including one on a power play, and chipping in an assist. Express Captain Rick Kowalsky exuded experience and wherewithal, scoring the game winner nine minutes into the final frame.

Four different forwards scored for the Bullies, with Scott Matzka opening the offense early in the first period, Jim Henkel closing out the first with an unassisted tally, Jade Galbraith tossing one in on a power play less than two minutes into the second, and Shawn Maltby tying the game in the beginning of the third only to see a victory slip away at the hands of scoring sensation Kowalsky.

Bullies netminder Scott Stirling earned just his second loss two months into the regular season, dropping to 8-2-1. Stirling stopped 34 Roanoke shots while Express goalies Sebastien LaPlante and Evan Lindsay split time between the pipes and together stopped 26 Bullies shots.

YEATS CHECKUP

Rookie goaltender Matt Yeats, who signed a tryout contract with the Philadelphia Phantoms on November 22, 2002, made his American Hockey League debut on Saturday, December 7, and recorded a 4-1 win against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Yeats stopped 26 Bridgeport shots, including all 19 in the first two periods, coming within minutes of recording a shutout until Sound Tigers' Matt Higgins netted a short-handed goal. Yeats is now 1-0-0 in his AHL career.
