Johnstown Chiefs News Release


The Johnstown Chiefs (11-12-2; 24 PTS 4th NW div.) suffered a little setback this past week as they went 1-2-0. Both losses came on the road against Cincinnati and Richmond. The Chiefs picked up a win Saturday night at home over Dayton. The Chiefs will play three games this week. Tuesday night they are at Roanoke and then a pair of home games Friday and Saturday night against the Peoria Rivermen.

GAME #23 (12/4/02) CINCINNATI 8 – Johnstown 2 St. Pierre, Doktorchik goals

The Cincinnati Cyclones handed the Chiefs their worst loss since 10/12/01, as they fell 8-2 Wednesday night at Cincinnati. Sam St. Pierre and Andy Doktorchik were the goal score rs for the Chiefs. Mark Scally (14 saves) played the first 36 minutes of the game allowing six goals. Peter Aubry (9 saves) finished the game allowing two goals. The Chiefs out shot the Cyclones 39-31.

GAME #24 (12/7/02) JOHNSTOWN 4 – Dayton 3 Sullivan Goal and Assist

Jeff Sullivan was named the #1 star of the game as he scored a Gordie Howe hat trick (goal, assist, fight) as the Chiefs won their fifth straight game over the Dayton Bombers this season, 4-3 Saturday night at the War Memorial. J.F. Boutin, Vladimir Nemec, and Dominic Forget (shorthanded goal) all scored for the Chiefs. Peter Aubry picked up his 7th win of the season making 24 saves. Torrey DiRoberto scored two goals for the Bombers.

GAME #25 (12/8/02) RICHMOND 3 – Johnstown 0 Aubry 27 saves

The Chiefs ran into a hot goaltender as Richmond Renegades goalie Dan Lombard stopped all 33 Johnstown shots to lead Richmond to a 3-0 win Sunday night at the Richmond Coliseum. The Chiefs struggled on the power play going 0 for 5. Peter Aubry made 27 saves in the defeat.

The Chiefs face the Roanoke Express (12-10-2, 26 PTS; 5th NE div.)for the first and only time this season, Tuesday night at the Roanoke Civic Center. The Chiefs were 1-2-0 against the Express last season and are 16-20-7 all-time. Former Chief Dan Carlson is 4th in scoring for the Express, with 11 goals and 13 assists (24 PTS) in 24 games. Roanoke is currently in fifth place in the Northeast division.

The Chiefs and the Peoria Rivermen (13-7-2, 28 PTS; 2nd NW div.) meet for the fifth and six time this season. The Chiefs are 1-3-0 against the Rivermen this season with the lone win in a shootout on 10/26 @ Peoria. Peoria has outscored the Chiefs 13-9. Peoria has lost their last two games and are 6-4-0 in their last ten games. The Chiefs are 16-23-3 all-time against Peoria.

CHIEFS NOTES:

- Sunday's 3-0 loss to Richmond was the first time the Chiefs have been shutout in a regular season game since 4/1/01 @ Dayton (97 games).

- Wednesday's 8-2 loss @ Cincinnati was the Chiefs worst loss since 10/12/01 @ Toledo (9-3).

- The three shorthanded goals the Chiefs have scored this season have come against the Dayton Bombers.

- The Chiefs were 0 for 11 on the power play in three games last week.

- The Chiefs have been out scored 38-46 at home this season.
