Men O' War Face Toledo Friday

Lexington, KY- The Lexington Men O' War went 2-1 this week. The MOW lost to Peoria on Thursday 2-0. Lexington rebounded on Saturday with a 5-2 home win over the Rivermen. Lexington completed their weekend with a 4-3 shootout win over the Dayton Bombers. This week the MOW are home for two games with a road game in between. The Toledo Storm visit Rupp on Friday. Saturday, the MOW head to Charlotte to meet the Checkers. On Sunday, the Wheeling Nailers invade Rupp Arena for the first time this year.

Thursday, December 5th – Peoria 2 at Lexington 0

Brendan Brooks recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Peoria Rivermen over the Men O' War. Scott Crawford provided the insurance marker with 4:19 left in the third period. Peoria's Mathieu Chouinard stopped all 34 shots he faced to record his second shutout of the season and the fifth of his pro career. Mike Smith was solid for the MOW stopping 19 of the 21 shots he faced in the loss.

Saturday, December 7th– Peoria 2 at Lexington 5

The Men O' War tied a season-high with five goals on Saturday. The offensive onslaught led to a 5-2 Lexington win over Peoria. The Smith-Burgess-Thinel line was red hot for the MOW. Mark Smith led the way with two goals and an assist. Van Burgess picked up one goal and two helpers. Marc-Andre Thinel scored into an empty net and added an assist to complete the line's extraordinary night. Brett Draney recorded his first goal with the MOW on a first period power play.

Sunday, December 8th – Dayton 3 at Lexington 4 SO Mark Smith and Alex Mathieu tallied shootout goals to give the Men O' War a 4-3 shootout win. Mike Smith stopped four of five Bombers in the shootout to ice the victory for the Men O' War. Fraser Clair scored a power play goal with 1:16 left in the third period to send the game to overtime. Mike Sgroi and Van Burgess also added regulation goals for the MOW.

CLAIR RECALLED TO GRIZZLIES

Rookie winger Fraser Clair has been recalled by the Utah Grizzlies of the American Hockey League. At the time of his recall Clair led all rookies in the ECHL with 90 shots in 23 games. His 90 shots also leads the Lexington Men O' War. Clair leaves as the third leading scorer behind only Mark Smith and Van Burgess. Clair posted four goals and a team high 10 assists. He also placed himself third on the team with 46 penalty minutes. Clair is tied for the team lead with two game-winning and one shorthanded goal.

UPCOMING GAMES......

The Men O' War play three games in three nights this week starting Friday at home vs. the Toledo Storm. Toledo leads the division with 34 points and is 2-0 against the Mow this season. Saturday Lexington heads to Charlotte to take on the Checkers. It is the only meeting of the season between the two teams. Charlotte is last in the Northeast Division. Sunday the Wheeling Nailers visit Lexington. Wheeling and Lexington are tied for fifth heading into the weekend. Sunday's game marks the first meeting between the Nailers and the MOW.

Forward Van Burgess has 12 points in his last 10 games with a plus 8 rating...Defenseman Joe Vandermeer has 10 points in his last 10 games ... (G) Mike Smith is 7th in the league with a 2.49 G.A.A... Lexington has six power play goals in their last four games...Thinel, Smith and Burgess have combined for 18 points in their last four games.
