Alban Receives League Honor
December 9, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announce that Chad Alban has been named the UHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of December 2nd-8th.
Last week, Alban appeared in two K-Wing games and compiled a recorded of 1-0-1. Chad started the week with a victory over the Port Huron Beacons. The Kalamazoo native stopped 33 shots to lead the K-Wings past the Beacons. Alban was just as spectacular on Saturday (12/7), as he once again denied 33 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss to Adirondack.
"This is well deserved honor for Chad," said Director of Hockey Operations/Head Coach Mark Kaufman. " With his ability to make saves he has provided us with the opportunity to get points all season."
Alban represents one half the best goaltending tandem in the UHL. Chad has a goals against average of 2.85 (5th in the UHL), and a save percentage of .918 (4th in the UHL). The K-Wings other netminder Jeff Reyneart has put up similar numbers, as Jeff starts the week with a GAA of 2.44 (4th in the UHL), and a save percentage of .922 (2nd in the UHL).
"Getting named goaltender of the week is a bigger reflection of the play in front of me," said Chad Alban. "We have come together as a team; we have cleared out rebounds, forced teams to shoot from the points, and our forwards have done a stellar job in the neutral zone."
The naming of Alban to Goaltender of the Week is the first league award of the season for the K-Wings. The K-Wings will return to ice with three games this week including two games at home. Kalamazoo will start the week on Thursday (12/12), as they travel to Moline, Illinois, to battle division rival the Quad City Mallards. The K-Wings enter the week trailing the Mallards by just four points for fourth place in the Western Conference.
The K-Wings return home to Wings Stadium for two games. On Friday, December 13th, the K-Wings host the Adirondack IceHawks. The game will be the Third Annual Teddy Bear Toss game sponsored by WOTV/WRCC. The K-Wings stay home on Saturday, as they play division rival the Missouri River Otters. The first 1,000 fans into the Wings Stadium will receive a limited edition K-Wings Holiday Ornament.
Tickets for both games, as well as all K-Wings home games are available by contacting the Wings Stadium box office at (269) 345-5101.
