Schaumburg Boomers News Release
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The West Division champion Schaumburg Boomers secured a road sweep of the Evansville Otters by posting a 7-5 win behind a pair of homers from Gerard Hall, the 30th road win of the year. The win means the Boomers will have home field advantage throughout the Frontier League Playoffs.
The first Hall homer came in the top of the first inning as the third batter of the game, driving home Bobby Martin as well. Martin scored three times in the contest. The second was a go-ahead homer in the top of the seventh, ending the night for Evansville starter Robert Ramer. Hall is the first player to homer more than once for the Boomers this year and the fifth in franchise history. Hall finished with three hits, three runs scored, and four RBIs. Justin Vasquez added a two-run single in the third.
Tony Delmonico allowed five runs in five innings and did not factor in the decision but struck out the side in the first. Matt LaMothe earned his first professional win by working the sixth. James Bierlein retired six straight in the seventh and eighth following a rain delay of over an hour. Sean Mahley worked the ninth for his fourth save.
The Boomers (58-35) have not lost a road series since June and finished with one of the best road records in league history. Schaumburg, winners of three straight, will have Labor Day off before returning to work on Tuesday night at Boomers Stadium against the Joliet Slammers in a 6:30 p.m. contest. RHP Shawn Sanford (9-6, 3.04) is scheduled to make his third start with the Boomers after being acquired at the transaction deadline from Washington. RHP Shawn Kale (5-4, 3.83) is the scheduled starter for Joliet. Playoff tickets are on sale now. Schaumburg opens the playoffs at home on September 7 at 8:00 p.m. Reserve your piece of the action by calling 847.461.3695 or visiting www.boomersbaseball.com.
