Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse Beach Bums pitching staff worked nine innings of one-run baseball, but failed to record a hit against the Joliet Slammers in ten full frames. Joliet scored three runs in the top of the tenth to defeat the Beach Bums 4-1 at Wuerfel Park Saturday night.

Joliet used six pitchers throughout the game starting with Chase Doremus, the Slammers struggled with the strike zone, walking nine Beach Bums on the night, but kept the home team hitless for the first time Traverse City has been no hit since Preston Vancil of the Florence Freedom on July 26 2009. It was the Slammers' first no-hitter since Andrew Moss blanked the Lake Erie Crushers on July 27 2011.

Finding their first deficit of the game, TC had no problem tying up the contest as the Beach Bums scored a run in the bottom of the fourth. Chase Burch led off the inning with a walk, while Kometani pushed him into scoring position with another free pass. Moving to third on Sean Gusrang's groundout, Burch later scored on Andrew Heck's sacrifice fly.

Mike Devine tossed arguably his best outing of the year allowing one run through seven innings on six hits and one walk. Jacob Clem relieved Devine in the eighth and tossed two perfect innings in the first two frames. The Slammers broke through in the top of the tenth when Jerod Yakubik singled on two outs. Grant Debruin gave the Slammers their first lead since the fourth with an RBI single. One batter later Kolin Conner drove a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall for a two-run homerun and a 4-1 Joliet advantage.

Brett Zawacki (6-7) earns the win for Joliet going two innings facing the minimum. Clem (6-7) suffered the loss.
