Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA-The Frontier League announced Washington's CJ Beatty as the post-season All-Star second baseman Sunday.
As one of Washington's most offensive threats, Beatty currently has a .315 average with 25 doubles, 3 triples, 18 homers, 64 RBI and has made an appearance in all 90 games for the Wild Things this season.
"CJ came to the Wild Things with a commitment to excel in the Frontier League," field manager Bart Zeller said. "He has done that and exceeded our expectations. He has been a leader on and off the field and is one of the hardest workers we have on the club. It is a well-deserved honor for CJ and our entire Coaching Staff is proud of his accomplishment"
Beatty, the switch hitting 24-year-old, was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft out of North Carolina AT&T State University. He spent his time last year between the Fort Worth Cats of the North American Baseball League and the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association.
The North Carolina native, who also made his Frontier League All-Star debut at CONSOL Energy Park in July, currently leads the league in total bases and is amongst the top four in many offensive categories, including home runs, hits, RBI and doubles.
"We signed CJ this offseason with the belief he could be an impact player to this league and a benefit to the Washington community," Steven Zavacky, assistant general manager said. "Besides his undeniable production this year, CJ showcased his charisma and love for the game on a daily basis."
Voting for the post-season awards was done by general managers, coaching staffs, and local media in all of the Frontier League markets.
The Frontier League, in its 21st season is an independent minor league baseball organization consisting of 14 teams. The division series of the playoffs will begin on Saturday, September 7.
