September 1, 2013 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - Evansville Otters General Manager Joel Padfield was named Frontier League Executive of the Year and Charles "Boots" Day was named Frontier League Coach of the Year on Sunday.
Padfield is in his eighth year with the Evansville Otters and second season as team General Manager.
"Boots" joined the Otters in 2012 and has been the team's hitting coach for the past two seasons.
The awards are chosen at the end of every Frontier League season and each honor was bestowed on a vote from fellow General Managers/coaches.
"We've always known that Joel and Boots are valuable members of our organization," said Otters Vice President Bix Branson. "We are pleased that their peers around the Frontier League recognize their ability also."
Boots had led the Otters to the second highest batting average in the Frontier League this season (.267), an improvement of 22 points from last season. He played professional baseball at the Major League level for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Montreal Expos in a six year career. Boots was the first Otters manager in franchise history in 1995 and has been in professional baseball signing his first contract in 1965.
"Being named coach of the year was a surprise but I am very happy to receive this honor," said Boots.
Padfield was with the Otters franchise from 2003 to 2006, leading the front office staff to a single season Frontier League record financial turnaround. He returned in 2010 as the Director of Sales and Revenue before becoming the Otters General Manager in 2012.
"It is an honor to be named the Frontier League Executive of the Year," said Padfield. "I want to thank the Bussing family for giving me the opportunity of being the General Manager of this great organization. I also want to thank the front office staff, interns, game day staff and Otter's fans for their enthusiasm, loyalty and hard work to make Bosse Field the place to go for family entertainment." Fans can congratulate Boots and Joel at historic Bosse Field on Sunday when the Otters host the Schaumburg Boomers Eastland Mall weekend at Bosse Field. First pitch is set for 5:05 pm CDT. The Otters pregame show starts at 4:45 pm on WUEV 91.5 FM.
