Gateway Grizzlies News Release
SAUGET, IL - The Rockford Aviators piled on four runs in the second inning and cruised to an 8-1 victory against the Gateway Grizzlies Saturday night at GCS Ballpark.
Jeff Kremer drove in a run and Edgar Corcino drilled a three-run home run to give the Aviators a 4-0 lead in the second against Grizzlies starting pitcher Matt Sergey (2-4)
Sergey took the loss, allowing four runs and three hits in two innings. Sergey walked three batters and struck out two.
After a one hour delay in the fourth inning, Rockford scored two more runs in the eighth inning on a Michael Hur two-run home run.
Gateway (50-42) scored their only run of the game in the eighth on a Michael Wing RBI double.
Wing finished the night 3-for-4.
Rockford added two unearned runs in the ninth to finish off the scoring.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Grizzlies and pushed them one game behind Florence for the last wild card spot.
The Grizzlies finish up the home portion of the regular season Sunday night at GCS Ballpark against the Aviators. Right-hander Tim Brown (12-3) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:05.
