SAUGET, Ill. - Michael Hur and Brandon Newton both homered Saturday night at GCS Ballpark as the Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, beat the Gateway Grizzlies 8-1.

Jeff Kremer put Rockford on the scoreboard in the top of the second with a two-out, RBI single that scored Michael Hur. Brandon Newton then followed with his first home run of the season, a three-run shot that gave the Aviators an early 4-0 lead.

Rookie pitcher Dan Meyer was outstanding in the start for Rockford. The lefty shutout the Grizzlies for seven innings, scattering six hits and striking out four to earn the win, the second of his professional career.

Rockford got two insurance runs in the top of the eighth. Hur smacked a two-run homer run over the 16-foot wall in left to make it 6-0 Aviators.

Gateway got its only run in the bottom of the eighth off an RBI double from Michael Wing. The run made it 6-1 Aviators.

Brian Bistagne and Hur collected back-to-back RBI hits in the ninth to plate two unearned runs for the Aviators and finish the scoring with Rockford earning the 8-1 victory. Hur finished the night 4-4 with a triple short of the cycle, three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base.

The rubber game gets underway at 6:05 p.m. Sunday at Gateway's GCS Ballpark in Sauget. Fans can hear the game live on 100.5 NTA-FM and online at www.rockfordaviators.com.
