Rockford Aviators News Release
TRAVERSE CITY - The Rockford Aviators dropped their wild card playoff game with the Traverse City Beach Bums Tuesday by a final of 5-1. The loss completes the 2015 season for the Aviators.
The Aves jumped out to an early lead at Wuerfel Park after rain delayed the start of the game by 40 minutes. Brian Bistagne would single home Devon Rodriguez as part of a back-to-back-to-back base hit attack against Beach Bum starter Kramer Champlin in the 2nd to make it 1-1.
Kyle Brueggemann held Traverse scoreless in the first 2 frames but surrendered 4 hits and 4 runs to Beach Bum bats in the 3rd. They would add another on a solo homer by Jose Vargas in the 6th to make it 5-1.
Eric Cendejas and Matt Frahm pitched scoreless relief behind Brueggemann, with Frahm striking out 4 of the 7 men he faced.
Though the year ends for the Aviators on a losing note, the team still found massive success during the 2015 campaign. The Aves finished with a winning regular season record and qualified for the postseason for the first time in franchise history. Contracts of 3 Aviators were purchased by big league ball clubs, and the team was represented by 7 players and the entire coaching staff at the Mid-Season All-Star Game in Schaumburg. Michael Hur and Devon Rodriguez each finished in the top 5 in the league in hits, and Brueggemann finished in the top 3 in strikeouts.
