Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums had their second walk-off in four days as they beat the Slammers 4-3 in ten innings in front of 3,586 at Wuerfel Park Sunday evening for Fan Appreciation Night.
The Beach Bums started to rally in the bottom of the tenth with runners at first and second and nobody out. Jose Vargas was hit by a pitch and Chase Burch followed with a walk. The mood was then shifted as Zach Kometani grounded into a double play, but the play allowed Vargas to move to third base. Sean Gusrang followed with a single up the middle to bring home the winning run and keep the Beach Bums in first place for another day.
Traverse City scored first when Vargas plated two in the opening frame doubling home Ryan Still and Carlo Testa.
The lead was cut in half in the second inning when Niko Vasquez belted a solo homerun over the left field wall.
Traverse City took that run back when Ryan Still singled home Scott Woodward, who reached on a single, for a 3-1 Beach Bums lead.
The Slammers evened up the ball game in the seventh with an RBI groundout from Jerod Yakubik and a run scoring fielder's choice by Grant Debruin.
Matt Miller (2-4) was the winning pitcher tossing three shutout innings while striking out two. Ryan Hartman suffered the loss after putting Vargas and Burch on the base paths and leaving responsible for those runners.
The Beach Bums will enjoy an off day on Monday before heading to Lake Erie for the final three game series of the regular season. Tuesday's game can be heard on Sunny Country 101.9 FM and tcbeachbums.com. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. The Budweiser Pregame Show begins at 6:45 pm. It is still undetermined where or when the Beach Bums will complete in the playoffs if they clinch. IF and WHEN the Traverse City makes the playoffs, tickets can be purchased by calling 943-0100, stopping by the Wuerfel Park ticket box office, or logging onto tcbeachbums.com.
