Buffalo Bisons News Release

MOOSIC, PA - The Buffalo Bisons ninth inning rally was not enough to defeat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 2-1 on Tuesday night at PNC Field.

Otto Lopez led off the game for the Bisons with a base hit to left field. Nathan Lukes singled to advance Lopez to second base with one out. Randy Vasquez was able to work out of trouble to keep the score 0-0.

Paxton Schultz pitched a solid first inning for Buffalo, picking up one strikeout and allowing zero runs. He would finish the night scattering eight hits in six innings, allowing just two runs.

In the bottom of the second inning, Rob Brantly had to leave the game after he was injured on a Jamie Westbrook swing and was replaced by Jamie Ritchie. Westbrook was awarded first base on a catcher interference.

In the bottom of the third inning, Schultz coerced his second double play of the game thanks to a Brandon Lockridge ground ball to Lopez that helped the right hander get out of the inning without surrendering a run.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the RailRiders got on the board with an Andres Chaparro home run to right-center field to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 1-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Schultz worked his fourth scoreless inning of the game to hold the deficit at 1-0.

The top of the sixth inning provided one of the best opportunities for the Bisons to tie the game. The Herd had the bases loaded but were unable to score. Randy Vasquez was relieved by D.J. Snelten and the two pitchers combined to keep Buffalo trailing 1-0.

Chaparro notched his second home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with his second homer of the game that extended the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead to 2-0.

In the top of the seventh inning, Tanner Morris produced a lead-off single to right field. The RailRiders bullpen buckled down to prevent the Bisons from scoring a run.

The Bisons rolled up their third double play of the game in the bottom of the eighth, as Yosver Zulueta came on in relief to get Chaparro to hit a ground ball to Lopez.

The Herd tallied their first run of the game in the top of the ninth. After back-to-back walks to Wynton Bernard and Morris, Lopez came through with a two-out RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1. However, Matt Bowman collected the final two outs of the game.

Tomorrow, the Bisons and the RailRiders will face off in the second game of their six-game series. Casey Lawrence is scheduled to start the second game of the series for the Herd.
