Where we are
The Condors (15-14-5, 35 points) made up some room in the division with their victory over the Gulls on Sunday. Bakersfield stands at 4th place in the Pacific Division, five points behind San Diego with four fewer games played, and eight points behind 2nd place Long Beach with five fewer games played. Fresno leads the division with a record of 23-7-8 for 54 points.
Notes from the Nest
-The 3-0 win over Victoria was the team's first shutout of an opponent this season. The Condors had limited opponents to one goal on eight different occasions prior to Sunday, posting a record of 7-0-1 in those games.
-Sunday's victory in San Diego was only the team's seventh win at the iPayOne Center, formerly the San Diego Sports Arena. Prior to last night's game, the Gulls held an all-time mark of 51-6-4 over the Condors in games played on San Diego home ice.
-Despite the loss on Friday, Ryan Munce stopped 93 of 100 shots faced during a stretch of three games in three days. Munce is tied for the league lead among active ECHL goaltenders with a .920 save percentage. He continues to lead the league in shootout wins with five on the season.
-On Friday, defenseman Scott Basiuk was named as a participant in the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game. Alexandre Bolduc, who was originally selected to take part in All-Star festivities, will miss the event and remain with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL following a slew of injuries plaguing the Manitoba roster.
-Leading up to the All-Star Game on Wednesday, Basiuk will represent the Condors in the ECHL Skills Competition on Tuesday, January 24th at 7pm. Basiuk will take part in both the Rapid Fire and Breakaway Relay contests on behalf of the National Conference. The Condors defenseman will then suit up for the All-Star Game on Wednesday, January 25th, which can be seen live on the NHL Network and as part of the NHL Center Ice Package, and can be heard live locally KGEO Hot Talk AM 1230 beginning at 6:45pm PT. The game can also be seen on Thursday, January 26th on OLN at 2pm PT. Live audio and video web feeds will be provided via Yahoo! Sports, accessible through the league website, ECHL.com.
-Oriel McHugh tallied a goal and an assist Sunday, his first points since the season opener at home versus Victoria on October 22nd.
-Andrew Ianiero is tied for the league lead with three shorthanded assists and tied for second with four shorthanded points.
