Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings finished a three game tour in California with a Sunday session against the Long Beach Ice Dogs-the sixth ranked team in the National Conference. The Salmon Kings leave the Golden State with a 1-2 record after being handed a 2-0 loss by the Ice Dogs.

Absent from the Victoria lineup was six-foot-six Right Winger Dallas Anderson, due to a suspension, and Right Winger Jade Galbraith, due to an injury; however Victoria native Steve Roberts hit the ice for the first time since November 18, 2005.

David Currie was given the nod as netminder for the Salmon Kings and held the Ice Dogs scoreless in the first period. Despite outshooting Long Beach 9-6 in the first, Victoria had no clear opportunities on Goaltender Jaroslav Halak.

The Ice Dogs got on the board 1:34 into the second period with a goal from Cory Urquhart. With 3:47 remaining in the period, team leading point scorer Christian Larrivee got his 15th goal of the season after scooping up a loose puck through the crease. Long Beach outshot Victoria 16-6 in the second frame.

A scoreless third period gave Long Beach their 19th win of the season.

The Salmon Kings were 0 for 4 on the powerplay and the Ice Dogs missed on their two opportunities with the man advantage.

Halak recorded his fifth win of the season, while Currie is charged the loss. Long Beach outshot Victoria 30-25.

The Salmon Kings will return home to enjoy the All Star break, with the exception of Adam Taylor and Steve Lingren, who will don the National Conference jersey and represent the Salmon Kings during the two-day event in Fresno, CA.

Lingren, who was named Captain of the National Conference squad, has played 41 games and earned 15 goals and 15 assists. He leads the ECHL in goals by a defenceman.

Taylor, in his first year in professional hockey, has played 41 games and tallied 10 goals and 21 assists.

Victoria will begin a three week home game stint on January 27th, as they host the 12-24-3 Phoenix Roadrunners.
