Thunder Rolls in Late to Overcome Beast 2-1
December 6, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ON- The Brampton Beast saw their four game winning streak come to a close on Saturday, December 6, as they fell 3-1 to the Wichita Thunder on home ice. The game marked the final game of the two game stint between the two clubs, with each team winning one.
The game got off to a very slow start, with both teams taking a seemingly more "feel it out" approach than the run-and-gun pace witnessed last night. Wichita jumped out to a lead on the shot clock, out shooting the Beast 9-2 just 8:30 into the first period of play, but the Beast battled back in that department and remained strong defensively to take an eventual 0-0 tie into the first intermission.
The second period was much the same story line. Neither team managed to break the goose-egg and defensive hockey was very much at the forefront of both teams gameplan.
The first goal of the contest finally came in the third period, 49 minutes after the opening drop of the puck. Jason Dale made a terrific dump-in and followed up the play with a relentless fore-check, serving a gorgeous pass right into the slot for Beast captain, Cal Wild. The goal was Wild's second of the season.
The Thunder wasted no time in tying the game, tallying the equalizer just 1:11 later compliments of Danick Gauthier. The Thunder's game continued to improve from that point on, taking their first lead of the contest in the final three minutes of play. The Thunder would add an empty-netter and skate out of Brampton with the 3-1 win.
The Beast will have a quick opportunity to get back to their winning ways with the club suiting up again tomorrow for their third game in as many days as the Wheeling Nailers make their way into the Powerade Centre for the first time in franchise history. Puck drop is slated for 2 pm ET. Fans unable to make the game can listen online at www.4cornersradio.ca.
