Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (11-8-0-2), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, scored a season-high three power-play goals en route to a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Eagles (11-6-0-0) in front of 8,940 fans on Friday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Colorado opened the scoring at the 3:01 mark of the first period, after Brock Nixon stole the puck on the forecheck, and then drove to the net from the right side, forcing the puck underneath Jussi Olkinuora.

Ontario evened the score at 14:48, when Vincent Arseneau rocketed a shot past Eagles goaltender Doug Carr from the top of the offensive zone, with Tristan King and Matt Register receiving assists on the goal.

The Reign took advantage of two consecutive power-play opportunities in the second period to pull ahead. After Teigan Zahn was whistled for holding at 0:14, Judd Blackwater redirected Jeff May's shot from the blueline past Carr at 0:52 to give Ontario its first lead of the evening. Dennis Brown received credit for the secondary assist.

The Reign then extended their lead only minutes later, after Collin Bowman was sent to the box for boarding at 1:51. Ontario capitalized on the ensuing man advantage when Derek Couture swatted the puck into the net during a goalmouth scramble at 3:06, with Rocco Carzo and May assisting.

Blackwater made it 4-1 for the Reign following a defensive breakdown by Colorado that led to Blackwater and Carzo teaming up on a two-on-none breakaway, ending with Blackwater burying his second of the night at 16:39.

The Eagles did not abandon their game plan, however, as Nathan Moon pulled Colorado back to within two with a power-play goal at 18:43, after he jammed the puck underneath Olkinuora, with Darryl Bootland and Curtis Gedig assisting.

Colorado then narrowed the gap at 19:50, when Bowman fired a puck from the right circle to continue the Eagles' comeback attempt.

In the third period, Matt Register capped the scoring and helped Ontario re-establish a two-goal lead with the team's third power-play goal of the night when his slap shot made its way through traffic to beat Carr at 10:08, with May getting the lone assist..

Olkinuora picked up the win with 18 saves; Carr took the loss with 12 stops.
