Eagles Late Rally Not Enough, Reign Win 5-3
December 6, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Colorado Eagles (11-6-0-0) rallied from a 5-1 deficit but simply ran out of time as the Ontario Reign (12-8-0-2), took away the 5-3 victory on Saturday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena during their Teddy Bear Toss Game.
Reign forward Matt White found the back of the net first to send teddy bears flying in Ontario to take the 1-0 lead with just under three minutes left in the first frame. With only 13 seconds left in the first, White netted his second goal of the period after picking up his own rebound in the low slot to take the 2-0 lead over the Eagles.
Just :36 into the second period, Ontario forward Derek Couture tipped forward Alex Roach's shot from the high slot to give the Reign the 3-1 advantage. Thirty seconds later Eagles forward Trent Daavettila answered with his first goal of the season with the help of fellow forward Vitalijs Pavlovs to cut into the Reign's lead, 3-1.
Ontario took the 4-1 lead as forward Geoff Walker beat Eagles netminder Clarke Saunders from between the hashes, 7:43 into the third stanza. Colorado had a costly turnover in their own zone and Reign forward Maxim Kitsyn took full advantage of the turnover as he pumped Ontario's lead to 5-1 with 8:44 left in the third period. Just over one minute later Eagles defenseman Brett Kulak cashed-in on the power play to cut into the Reign's lead, 5-2. Less than three minutes later, Pavlovs made it a two-goal game, 5-3, off of a pass from linemate Jordan Kwas. Saunders had 18 saves on 23 shots while Reign goaltender Jussi Olkinuora stopped 38 of Colorado's 41 shots-on-net to hold on to the 5-3 victory for Ontario.
