Oilers Offense Held Back in 2-1 Loss to Mavericks

Tulsa Oilers News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO - Missouri Mavericks goalie Maxime Lagace made 27 saves and kept the Tulsa Oilers off the scoreboard for 59 minutes in a 2-1 Mavs victory on Saturday night in front of 5,124 at the Independence Events Center. The Oilers have lost three of their last four games and dropped to 1-3-1 against the Mavericks this season.

The two sides battled to a scoreless stalemate through the first period and the Mavericks were able to strike early in the second. Missouri captain Sebastien Thinel passed the puck from behind the Oilers' net to the waiting stick of John-Scott Dickson at 1:44 of the middle frame to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. Dickson tipped the puck through Tulsa netminder Kevin Carr for his fourth goal of the season.

Andrew Courtney provided the Mavericks with an insurance tally at 7:29 of the third period. Courtney led an odd-man rush into the Tulsa zone and elected to call his own number with a wrist shot that found the back of the net. Missouri led 2-0 on Courtney's fourth goal of the season. With Carr pulled in favor of an extra attacker, the Oilers were finally able to solve Lagace. As he was falling backward, veteran center Jon Booras flipped a shot over Lagace and under the crossbar to give the Oilers a glimmer of hope with exactly 60 seconds remaining. Over the final minute, despite their best efforts, the Oilers were unable to register the equalizer.

Tulsa ended the night 0-for-4 on the power play and has now played six consecutive games without scoring a power play goal. The Mavericks, owners of the league's worst power play coming into the contest, went 0-for-5 with the man-advantage.

Missouri became the first home team in the season series to win a game and in 50 all-time visits to the Independence Events Center, the Oilers have managed only 14 victories.

The Oilers, on the heels of a stretch of nine games in 13 days, get some much-needed rest before beginning a five-game home stand on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder.
