Hockey with Heart

The Go Red Passport Card returns so if you are one of the first in the building you'll receive a card where you can go "around the world" of promotional tables in the arena for your chance to snag some great prizes, like tickets to the Utah Grizzlies game for two on January 10 to see the Thunder play, a three-month In-Shape family membership, or a number of other great baskets from sponsors like HERLIFE Magazine, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Dignity Health St. Joeseph's Medical Center, and theadora.

The Thunder are 1-2-0 in this event's history after they beat the Idaho Steelheads 7-2 in 2011-12, but then fell to the Steelheads the following season and to the Colorado Eagles last year. Current San Jose Sharks netminder Alex Stalock has the only Thunder win during Hockey with Heart.

Last Time Out

The Thunder stepped on the ice with a new look as they surprised fans with the 10th Anniversary Jerseys and after a good start the Thunder were rewarded with Ryan Hayes' sixth goal of the season. Chris Francis responded by sneaking one past Shane Owen to tie the game up but seconds later Garet Hunt scored his first of the year to put the Thunder back on top.

The Aces though wouldn't quit and in the final 1:19 of the first, scored two goals to steal the lead back. The increased their lead in the second but in the third the Thunder tried to muster a comeback effort. They were on the right track with Peter Sivak's sixth of the season but Raphael Bussieres' first ECHL goal restored the three-goal lead. Tyler Shattock cut the deficit to two but time ran out as the Aces take out the Thunder 6-4.

Tonight

The Thunder look to bounce back and beat the Aces for the first time since October 25. Since the Thunder evened the series up back in October, the Aces have beaten the team five-straight times, although the Thunder have picked up a point in an overtime loss.

Who to Watch

Ryan Constant has a point streak going of three-straight games with a goal and two assists. He also has four points in his last five games.

Constant is now just 10 points away from tying Mike Lalonde's all-time points record of 156 points. This isn't great news for Garet Hunt who's also giving chase to the record. Hunt missed 11 games before returning earlier this week. While the captain scored his first goal of the year, he is still 4 points behind Constant and 14 behind Lalonde.

Going Streaking

Thunder forward Peter Sivak continues to play well as last night the Cheb, Czech Republic native extended his point streak to seven games. In those seven games, Sivak has 4 goals and 7 assists, both of which lead the Thunder during that stretch.

He is currently tied for the team lead in points this season with 18 and leads the team with a plus-6 rating through 16 games.

Sivak missed five games earlier this year as he was called up to Bridgeport for a couple weeks. He played in two games with the Sound Tigers and scored one goal.

Tenth Anniversary Jersey

The Thunder unveiled their new Tenth Anniversary edition sweaters last night and the fan response was overwhelmingly positive. The Stockton Fan Attic saw replicas fly off the shelves as eager fans wanted to get their hands on the beautiful new jerseys as quickly as possible.

While Thunder fans would have loved to see a win in the inaugural game with the new sweater, the lucky ones who got their hands on a replica left Stockton Arena with a bittersweet smile on their face.

The Thunder will continue to wear these new jersey's periodically throughout the rest of this year. Hopefully they can get their first win the next time they wear them.

Struggles vs. Aces

Stockton is now 1-5-1 versus Alaska this season, but that doesn't stray too far from the narrative over the years between these two clubs. The Thunder are 29-41-12 in 82 games and have a win-percentage of 0.426 lifetime versus the Aces. That is the lowest win-percentage the Thunder have against any team they have played at least 60 times.

Last year's Kelly Cup Champions have certainly had the Thunder's number since the central valley saw the Thunder become a franchise in 2005. That first season, the Aces swept the season-series with the Thunder, beating them in all six contests between the two that year.

From 2008 to 2010, the Thunder went 11-1-5 against the Aces, but those years are the outliers. The struggles against Alaska have continued into this year, but keep in mind that Alaska are the defending Kelly Cup Champions and a team that Stockton has struggled with for years.
