Stingrays Send Winning Streak to Five Games with 4-2 over Royals

Reading, PA - The South Carolina Stingrays (9-9-0-4) extended their winning streak to a season-high fives games with at 4-2 victory over Reading Royals (9-8-1-1) Saturday night at Santander Arena. Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis earned his fifth consecutive win making 40 saves and three different Stingrays recorded multi-point games.

Defenseman Marcus Perrier gave the Stingrays a 1-0 lead on the power play 4:11 into the contest firing a shot over the blocker of Royals goaltender Connor Knapp (L, 29 saves on 33 shots) from the right-wing circle. Defenseman Michael Young and forward Joe Devin added assists. Late in the frame, forward Braden Pimm made it a two-goal Stingrays lead on the man advantage knocking a rebound past Knapp at 15:53 with help from forward Wayne Simpson and defenseman Garrett Haar.

The Stingrays picked up their third power-play tally at 1:08 of the second period when Simpson rifled a shot off the crossbar and in from between the faceoff circles. Pimm added the lone assist. The Royals jumped on the scoreboard at 11:17 as forward Adam Hughesman slipped a shot between the legs of Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (W, 40 saves on 42 shots).

Devin reclaimed a three-goal Stingrays spot redirecting a shot from forward Rob Bellamy at 2:24 of the third period. Royals forward Willie Coetzee completed the game scoring at 12:29. The Stingrays finished the game 3-for-4 on the power play while the Royals 0-for-3.

The Stingrays close a three-game in three-day road trip tomorrow, Sunday, December 7 against the Reading Royals at 5:05 p.m. at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania.
