Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the fifth of 11 head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel were defeated by the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum by a final score of 5-1. With the loss, the Fuel fell to 5-11-2-2 overall this season and with 12 points, remain alone in seventh place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
After a tight-checking start to the game, Fort Wayne leading scorer Shawn Szydlowski broke the ice for the Komets at 15:30 of the first period on a power-play one-timer from the top of the left circle that made it 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
In the middle frame, the Komets rattled off three unanswered even-strength goals, from Garrett Meurs at 4:29, Thomas Frazee at 8:58 and Meurs again at 16:50 to extend the Fort Wayne lead to 4-0 through two period of play. In the third, Garett Bembridge extended his goal-scoring streak to five games with his eighth tally of the season at 8:49, but an Eric Faille marker at 10:33 established the Komets' 5-1 final margin of victory.
Cody Reichard made 20 saves on 25 shots faced for the Fuel on Saturday while Komets backstop Roman Will made 24 stops to earn the victory in his first career ECHL appearance.
