South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Two goals and an assist from forward Evan Jasper and 35 saves by goaltender Brandon Halverson gave the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (21-32-6-1) a 3-2 decision over the South Carolina Stingrays (37-13-6-1) on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.

Marcus Perrier and Mike Chen had goals for the Stingrays in the loss, while forward Leo Fitzgerald earned a point in his professional debut and Parker Milner stopped 17 shots.

South Carolina outshot Greenville 37-20 in the contest, but the Swamp Rabbits capitalized on a few of their best chances including a late power play goal with less than three minutes remaining in the game.

Perrier gave the Rays a 1-0 lead at 7:46 of the first period on his sixth goal of the season, knocking home a rebound from the front of the net. Fitzgerald had taken the initial shot, and recorded the first assist for his first pro point. The second helper went to forward Steven Whitney, who now leads the team with 29 assists on the season.

Greenville tied things up at 1-1 on a power play goal by J.T. Henke at 18:09 of the opening frame and the teams were even after the first 20 minutes of play.

Jasper had the only goal of the second, his 17th of the year at 12:22 of the middle period. The Swamp Rabbits had a 2-1 advantage heading into the third.

Chen tied things up for South Carolina with a power play goal at 8:17 of the third, making it 2-2 and giving SC new life with his second tally of the season. The defender took a pass from partner Joey Leach at the left circle and blasted it by Halverson to even the game. Center Kelly Zajac picked up the second assist on the goal, his 40th point of the season.

Late in the game, Perrier cleared a loose puck away from the front of the Rays' net that went out of play and caused a delay of game infraction. While he was in the penalty box serving the penalty, Jasper scored his second of the night and put the Swamp Rabbits in front for good at 3-2 with 2:18 remaining in the game.

Greenville finished 2-for-3 on the power play, while South Carolina was 1-for-4. The Stingrays have now scored a power play goal in five consecutive games.

The Stingrays host the Atlanta Gladiators on Saturday for Pink In The Rink Night at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7:05 p.m.
