Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

North Charleston, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (21-32-6-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, tallied a late third period goal to top the South Carolina Stingrays (37-13-6-1) 3-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum. Greenville's victory halted a 13-game losing streak and pushed the season series with South Carolina to a 3-4-2-1 record. Evan Jasper provided the scoring charge with two goals and an assist while Brandon Halverson was a stalwart in his first action with the team since January.

The Stingrays broke through first in the first period after turning 13 shots on net. In his pro debut Leo Fitzgerald managed to find the score sheet. A low angle shot came high on Brandon Halverson in the Swamp Rabbits net and the rebound bounced high atop the crease. Marcus Perrier bat the rebound toward the net and tallied his sixth goal of the season to open the scoring.

Halverson was stellar in the remainder of the game, collecting 35 saves on 37 shots returning to the Swamp Rabbits net. His performance helped give Greenville the chance to battle back despite being outshot 37-20 in the contest.

Greenville's first tally in the game came on the team's first power play with less than four minutes before the intermission. Matt Prapavessis fired a long shot from the top of the circle and was denied by Parker Milner who was way outside of the crease. The goal was scored on the ensuing battle as Evan Jasper put back the rebound past Milner's pads. J.T. Henke fought his way to the crease and finally hammered in the loose puck for his first career tally after joining the club four games again from Lake Superior State University.

The Swamp Rabbits jumped up in the second period with 11 shots on net after recording only six in the first. In transition, Jasper used his speed to help create the team's second goal. Joe Basaraba tossed the puck up the ice for his winger to chase down the left wing. From the left circle, the rookie sniped the water bottle off of the net of Milner with a wrist shot to give Greenville the lead.

The Stingrays managed to equalize the game in the third period with a power play goal of their own. Mike Chen recorded his second of the season on a one-timer from the left circle. With the game on the line, Greenville rushed up the ice and forced a puck to the net. Perrier took the puck and attempted to clear but skied it into the stands to put the Stingrays on the penalty kill with less than four minutes to play.

Greenville took the lead and scored the eventual game-winning goal on the ensuing power play, ending the night 2-for-3 on the man advantage. Basaraba cycled behind the net before putting a perfect pass to Jasper streaking toward the right side of the net. The Whitby, Ontario native hammered the puck into the net with a little more than two minutes left.

Halverson and the defense shut it down in the remaining moments of the game and finished the night 3-for-4 on the power play.

The Swamp Rabbits win is the club's first victory since Feb. 2 and began a 3-in-3 for the club. The team returns home for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday against the Orlando Solar Bears.
