Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, Ga. - The Atlanta Gladiators announced Friday that forward Tanner Pond has signed a professional try-out contract with the Providence Bruins while the Gladiators' AHL affiliate has loaned defenseman Taylor Doherty back to the team.
Pond, 24, earns his first AHL stint after a breakout rookie campaign thus far with Atlanta. The Walled Lake, MI native ranks fourth on the Gladiators in scoring with 32 points (14-18-32) in 53 games. The hard-hitting forward also leads Atlanta with eight fighting majors and sits in second on the club with 141 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot, 194-pound center skated four seasons at Northeastern University and amassed 12 career points (5-7-12) in 109 games with the Huskies.
Doherty, 27, has played in 43 games for Atlanta this season where the former San Jose Sharks second round draft pick has notched 17 points (6-11-17) which ranks second on the Gladiators defensive-core. The Cambridge, ON native appeared in one game for Providence during his recall where he collected a fighting major and plus-one plus/minus rating. The 6-foot-8, 236-pound defender was named alternate captain for the Gladiators by head coach Chuck Weber back in November.
The Atlanta Gladiators 15th Anniversary season continues at the Infinite Energy Arena Tuesday, March 13th against the Idaho Steelheads at 7:05 PM. For ticket information, visit the official team website at www.atlantagladiators.com or call the main office line at 770-497-5100.
